Operating revenue pays operating expenses.

Operating revenue
Revenue comes from charges and fees. In the typical year they are divided as follows:

  • 40% from sales in the store.
  • 35% from fees and sales of recyclables.
  • 15% from charges for solid waste.

Cart’m receives no money from taxes.

Operating expenses
Expenses include all normal costs of doing business. In the typical year they are divided as follows:

  • payroll 65%
  • recycle fees and shipping 12%
  • solid waste fees and shipping 16%
  • utilities 3%
  • office and insurance 4%

During fiscal 09/10 our operating budget is approximately $350,000.

Other revenue
Cart’m benefits from several additional sources of funds.

  • fundraising activities such as Trash Bash
  • donations on site and at the end of the year
  • capital improvements paid by Tillamook County
  • grants from public agencies and private foundations

In addition to financial support, we have received in-kind donations from Hyster Corporation and other companies.

Grants for capital projects
Cart’m has received approximately $500,000 in grants since 1998. Grant support has come from the following:
