Transfer Station

CARTM dumpsters are emptied at the central transfer station in Tillamook, where it is ultimately shipped to Coffin Butte Landfill in Benton County. Methane gas from the landfill is captured to power the City of Corvallis.

People often ask why we accept trash at CARTM if our mission is 'Leading our community to zero waste.' We believe that monitoring loads for reusable materials and bringing trash to CARTM where the rest of the community is visibly reusing and recycling changes ideas about what is trash, and what isn't trash - yet. We have seen trash volumes diminish over the years, and we think we have influenced that trend. One of our customers mentioned recently that she was visiting family out-of-state, and it 'just killed her' that her family was throwing valuable cans and bottles into the trash. We are happy that she doesn't have to feel that way at home!

Staff attendants are always available to answer your questions about trash.

Trash rates

$36 per cubic yard
$  8 per standard 30-gallon trash can or bag

CARTM attendants assess loads using the following formula:
Trash load height x width x length (in feet), divided by 27 = cubic yards x $36 = price.

Trash rates and acceptance fees are set by Tillamook County and reviewed annually.

Need help estimating your trash fee? Here are some helpful guidelines:

  • Quick math: height x width x length in feet = just slightly less than the price
  • Our metal green bins are 1.5 cubic yards. (2/3 full would be 1 cubic yard = $36, full = $54)
